Founder and President of Studios Unis d'auto-défense

Maître Clermont PoulinMaster Poulin began practicing martial arts in 1970 in Boston with Master Villari. In 1973, Master Poulin obtained the rank of first degree black belt (Shodan). In 1974, he returned to Quebec City and founded the Studios Unis d'auto-défense under the banner "United Studios of Self Defence".

In 1979, Master Clermont Poulin opened a second school in Lévis, on the south shore of the St. Lawrence River, and it is the only other school created under the anglophone banner of United Studios of Self Defence.

In 1981, Master Poulin decided to leave Master Villari in order to orient the style he wishes to adopt for the Studios Unis d'auto-défense.

After having heard of Professor Cerio on several occasions, Master Poulin had the chance to meet him at a competition in the United States in the Spring of 1986. After this first contact, Master Poulin exchanged on several occasions with this martial arts icon and also solidified a relationship with him. At that time, Master Poulin finally discovered the sought-after orientation for the Studios Unis d'auto-défense. It is thus on the fall of 1986 that Professor Cerio became the Master of Clermont Poulin and all the students of his schools. From then on, Studios Unis d'auto-défense are at the source of their original Kenpo.

The Studios Unis, now influenced by Professor Cerio, will modify positions, katas, blocking forms, systems of self defence, etc. His influence is felt in the martial arts philosophy of the Studios Unis d'auto-défense. The history surrounding the Kenpo style with the Studios Unis now begins. Through Professor Cerio's teaching, the Studios Unis are moving definitely closer to the origins of the martial arts, i.e. the traditions, the respect and the philosophy surrounding martial arts in general.
